Oasis of Escapism, Solo Exhibition, Ohio Dominican University, Wehrle Gallery, Columbus, Ohio, 2023

As I consider my personal, and collective experiences with loss, disease, and grief I create installations with print media to explore the interconnectedness of ecological destruction, human fragility, and resilience. I’ve started to work more and more with found materials I have been collecting. Why wouldn’t these things be intertwined with my art? The future of human existence and the environment continues to be at the forefront of my mind and using these found objects falls in line with how much I feel my art aligns with my existence. I create art based on my experiences and imagery I’m inspired by.

I use the materiality of paper altered through hand cutting, deeply embossing, and inking to create organic forms with color altered shadows. Paper is important in my work as it is able to represent strength as well as fragility. Each print is stacked together fluorescing onto the layer behind it which reflects an ominously unnatural glow. The glowing elements in my work present both a looming presence as well as hope that we will fix some of the mess we’ve created.
