Tipping Point, Solo Exhibition, Olde Town East, Columbus, Ohio

America shifted to warmer planting hardiness zones in 2023 and with the weather we’ve been having I can see why. It makes me think about the continuing global rising temperatures and the climate crisis.

The paper in the exhibition represents a dying nature. It can more overtly present as coral, but abstraction and paper qualities allow it to be interpreted as any organic form. The black plexi represents oil and the direct relationship it often has to the ocean. Drilling, spills, plastic. In the reflection of the plexi the viewer is forced to face themselves as a part of the oil. Maybe feeling like a contributor to the pollution, or like they are stuck trying to pull themselves out like a little oily duck. Plant trees, save native bees, protect the seas!

I have 4 freestanding walls that were designed specifically to hold my coral installations. Each wall measures 8 feet tall by 4 feet wide. These can be arranged in different ways and I’m flexible, but I am imagining that they could act as a large monolith with each wall facing outward. I would be happy to talk about this more and answer any questions about how it could best exist in the space.
